The Central Cross

The cross was erected in the honour of all fallen defenders for Croatian freedom in October 1998 at the estuary of river Vuka. It was a gift from the Croatian Navy, military district Pula.

It is 9.5 meters high and weighs 40 tons. It consists of two parts, and it is made of two types of stone: white Brac stone (the cross) and Pazin stone (the pedestal).

There are verses written by Fran Krsto Frankopan carved in Glagolitic script: “He who dies with honour, forever lives“.

The author of the monument is sculptor Sime Vidulin from Pula.
